Delete Your Backcountry Beta Account
Last updated: July 12, 2026
This page explains how to delete your Backcountry Beta account and what happens to your data. It applies to accounts used in the Backcountry Beta apps for Android and iOS and on the web map at backcountry-beta.app.
Contact (data controller): Backcountry Beta — david@backcountry-beta.app
How to delete your account
Deleting your account is permanent, removes your content, and signs you out on every device.
- In the Android app: sign in, open Profile → account settings → Delete Account, and confirm.
- In the iOS app: sign in, open Profile → account settings → Delete Account, and confirm.
- On the web map: open the web map at backcountry-beta.app/map.html, sign in, click your user name in the top-right corner, then choose “Delete account…” and type DELETE to confirm.
Accounts with a lot of content may take a few moments to finish deleting; if the process is interrupted you can simply run it again.
What is deleted
When deletion completes we permanently remove the following from our backend:
- your account record (email, username, name, and profile details);
- saved tours and trip reports, including GPX tracks;
- field observations and observation reports;
- uploaded photos;
- saved forecast points and favorites;
- custom zones;
- Condition Check questions and saved checks;
- feedback you submitted;
- your public profile;
- every active session (you are signed out on all devices).
What is kept, and for how long
- Server logs and analytics. Server logs and analytics events are retained for shorter operational periods. You can additionally request deletion of your Mixpanel analytics profile by emailing us.
- Backups. Residual copies in backups and logs are purged on their normal cycle.
- Purchase records. Purchases made through Google Play, the App Store, or the web checkout are retained by Google, Apple, or our payment provider (RevenueCat and its payment processor) under their own policies; the subscription state linked to your Backcountry Beta account is deleted with the account. Deleting your account does not cancel an active subscription — cancel it in your Google Play or App Store subscription settings, or for subscriptions purchased on the web, email us at david@backcountry-beta.app.
Delete some data without deleting your account
You do not have to delete your whole account to remove data. Individual tours, trip reports, observations, photos, saved forecasts, custom zones, and saved Condition Checks can be deleted from within the apps or the web map at any time; shared content can be unshared. Email us to disconnect your identity from analytics without deleting the account.
